Find yourself at a tradeshow, event, or on the road? Perhaps your a mobile service provider. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to accept credit cards anywhere without having to lug around one of those big and expensive to rent portable credit card machines? I know I would!

There’s a new payment solution in town and it’s called Square. Like PayPal, Square is an online payment solution that doesn’t require a merchant account and allows you to manage all your funds online. To get going, just go to their website to sign up and they’ll send you out a credit card reader that plugs into your iPhone headphone jack. It also works iPod touch, iPad, Nexus One, and Droid.
The really cool thing about Square is the automated receipting that it does. It takes your current location, the transaction details, and you can punch in your customers email address and a receipt is sent out immediately. How’s that for service! And it’s fully secure with PCI compliance.
You can even enter your cash payments to keep a neat record of all your sales in one place. All payments in a clean interface accessible securely from anywhere. Instantly see how much you’ve made for the day and when the day’s over, you can download your data into a standard format.
There are no monthly fees, and transactions cost 2.75% + 15c processing, which is comparable to PayPal.
This is the app I’ve been waiting for! The only problem, it’s only currently available in the U.S.! Hopefully it won’t be long before it rolls out in other countries.
